MARC National 2006

MARC National Convention 2006, Grand Rapids Michigan.

We started out by our small tour (2 of us only, but we knew there would be more) led by Ron. It Warm and rainy at 8:45 am,

Packed and ready to go we were determined to forge ahead. We headed for the outer drive through the south side around the lake up to Grand Rapids. When we got there.....who cares!!! Our mission "HAVE FUN" and have a great safe drive!

Ok what did we forget?? Tools, Pillows, Water, Oil, Bulbs, Fan Belt, Car Polish, Grease, Generator, Horn, Gas.......AAHAAAA!!!......VAL???? Ok were ready to go now!

Like I said...lots of Rain.....But we have RAINEX.....YES!!!! We traveled through the city to the south shore past the south end of the lake and the rain finally let up as soon as we entered the beautiful city of Gary Indiana.

Nothing like the smell of the steel mills in Gary, and what a place to have lunch in!

Ok back on the road and this time we were headed for the Indiana Dunes and Lake Michigan!

yes those are rain drops again! (PS Ron is in front...any surprise?)

We made it and it sure was beautiful and it seemed like the day was headed in our direction.....Now only if we were headed in the right direction. We were pioneers on a MISSION!

We even took a break and watched the movie...bet you did not know that maple syrup comes out of a tree CLEAR and has to be "Mapelized " to go on pancakes!!

Our Tour guide (Ron ) took us to a beautiful part of the bach where they are restoring the old homes from the 30's back to the original look, some of the old looks from Florida are really fantastic and sure to be eye catching and costly!!

Ron points out some of the facts of the project and a nice shot of our "TOUR" group (very small group)

You get the drift!

Well after that venture it was already after 12:00...GUESS WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!......FOOD!! LUNCH!! you got it and it was not time to meet up with the rest of the tour...It was off to a nice little place called "Pumps on 12" We met up with Vince and Karen, John and Marilyn, and Jim and Patty, food was great and it was nice to have a break. John was overheating and we took care of that...Now on to the Antique stores for more fun! NO wait. the Rag Tops Museum was next. I forgot who was leading the tour ....remember it was a small tour!!

Ron makes sure all is A OKAY~~

This was a nice place, most of the cars were convertibles in the collection, all owned by one person!!

Got the idea!

Off to the Antique shops!

yup Ron's way way up there..Hey they were closing soon.

Okay made it to town, now lets get to shoppin!

Move! Daylight's a waistin!

well look who showed up!

Back on the road and this time the mission was to get there before dark...Well it would be nice! So we headed out with the tour guide, more pit stops..(The vibration causes us to stop a lot! a real LOT).

Wait a second ....Wilson and Granville. We're going to Michigan..NOT back to Chicago!!! OMG... I knew that Ron would get us lost!!

Its a good thing I have a great sense of direction to find out way back!

After stopping for dinner we actually made it to the Crowne Plaza hotel by 9:30...not bad.. and it worth all the time it took, We had a great ride and now the excitement was to start. The lot was already full with cars and the event hadn't even started. A nice short meeting with Ken and it was off to the room for some well needed rest.

6am..Rise in shine, Check in, get goodie bag, EAT, meet with Ken, Board meeting, swap meet, car repair tent....OMG!!!! so much to do~~so little time,,what am i gonna dooooooo?????? Pace yourself, you can do it....

We spent most of the day, after the morning board meeting making new friends, visiting the swap and taking pictures of some of the great cars.,Some nice deals and some nicer cars were for sure pulling up daily to the hotel for all the events.

This was a member of the "Barn Find Model A's"

Talk about a repair, how about dropping the entire engine to fix babbitt!!

Lots of great cars!

Well 6pm was fast approaching...what time does that mean....DINNER TIME AT NATO'S with the Gang... This was one of the most enjoyable evenings we had. Val and I, Ken and Helen, John & Marilyn, Jan & Kathy, Jim and LaVerne, the Murphy's all the way from Joliet and of course Vince and Karen who's family were the hosts...Not only did we have a great meal but Vince gave us a tour of the Restaurant and the lower wine cellar..See it not what you know but WHO!!!!

No'..I do like your haircut John!!

Vince and Ken discussing the bill and why KEN should pay for all of us!!!!

Lovely, Lovely, Lovely!!!

Val I'm still hungry, are you going to eat that all?

The best dessert of the dessert of the entire week!

Vince had a bad "ITCH"

I think Ken LOST!!

The next day was filled with more meeting classes and the swap. there was a nice shock rebuilding seminar, ladies hat fashions and of the course the basket weaving, which i might ass was SOLD OUT! There was also the mandatory Touring and Fine Point judging seminars which all who were to be judged had to attend. The MARC Membership meeting was also held that afternoon, so there was a lot to do in a little amount of time. Not to mention i was entering in touring class and had yet to find a minute to work on the car and get ready.

Shock Class

Lots of baskets made

this was the crowd INSIDE at the tables!

Look who 's in charge!

Ok I think I got it???

Damn my reflection looks good!

Now start it!

Timing adjustments

At the repair hospital!

I did it ,..I did it! It works now!!!

Stayed up that night until 2am getting ready for the judging., Had a great day and great fun participating in the judging, there were cars from all over and all were great looking. If you have never had your car judged, or participated in being a judge, I highly suggest it.. it was a great learning experience and a lot of fun also.
